13 March 2023 This year, to mark Mother’s Day, as well as World Poetry Day, both on the 21st of March, Deliveroo has partnered with the UAE’s first Emirati Slam Poet, Salem Al Attas, for a very special tribute to mothers. Inspired by childhood nostalgia from when one first falls in love with their mother’s home-cooked food, Salem Al Attas has penned down a heartwarming poem titled, ‘A Taste of Home’.
Elevating the impact of Salem’s heartfelt words, Deliveroo released a powerful video of him reciting “A Taste of Home”. The newly launched video for the campaign captures Salem delivering a poem that touches upon various stages throughout a foodie’s journey when experiencing a mother’s love in a home-cooked meal. The poem reflects not only on a mother’s cooking, but also on the care, time, and effort a mother dedicates to preparing a meal for her loved ones. Recognizing that many UAE residents live away from their mothers, the poem also alludes to the constant search for that flavour or smell that reminds them of home. With ‘A Taste of Home’, Deliveroo and Salem aim to spark an emotional connection to remind customers that while their mothers may not always be around, the taste and comfort that they yearn for can sometimes be experienced with their favourite food delivered with love and care.
As the UAE’s first Emirati Slam Poet, Al Attas is currently a six-time Rooftop Rhythms slam champion and former Rooftop Rhythms Grand slam champion. Known for channelling his love for intricate wordplay, rhymes and analogies into his style of slam poetry, Salem has become an inspiration for aspiring Emirati artists and encourages younger generations to pursue arts.
Striking a chord among foodies across the UAE, the poem is a soulful reminder that the secret ingredient to a mother’s cooking is love…a feeling which can sometimes find its way as a knock on the door, and a teal box that’s so much more.
